Brighton is located in the county of East Sussex on the south coast of England and has a population of around half a million people. The origins of the town date back to the Doomsday Book in 1086, but it is best known now as one of the UK's premier holiday and beach resorts.
The town has an array of attractions that include; Brighton Pier, the Royal Pavilion, museums, theatres churches, and numerous restaurants, bars, nightclubs.
Brighton Pier, also known as the Palace Pier, was opened in 1899 and remains the largest pier in England. Also of note is the Royal Pavilion, which was designed in an Indian style for the Prince Regent. A small picture of the building can be seen in the graphic at the top of this page.
Brighton is also known for hosting large scale annual political conferences at hotels such as the Grand or Metropole. There is no shortage of accommodation for visitors to choose from when planning to take a holiday or short break; from the larger hotels already mentioned to more homely bed and breakfast lodgings.
